Biography

Panagiotis Trochopoulos (Панаёт Трахопулов)
was born in November 1982 in Greece. He comes from a family of scientists and in May 2006 graduated from the Moscow State Conservatory where he studied with Nikolai Petrov.

With a repertoire which includes 15 solo programs and 30 concertos for piano and orchestra incorporating as well the complete concertos of Rachmaninov, Panagiotis Trochopoulos has toured worldwide and performed in such countries as the United States, Russia, Germany, Austria, Italy, Croatia and Rumania. He has collaborated with many distinguished conductors including Tomasz Bugaj, Murad Annamamedov, Ovidiu Balan, Grigor Palikarov and Oktav Calleya.

His past orchestral appearances have included performances of Brahms’ second piano concerto with the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra of Pazardjik, Prokofiev’s third piano concerto with the Symphony Orchestra of Kissinau in Moldavia, Liszt’s first piano concerto with the orchestra of the municipality of Thessaloniki in Greece and Rachmaninov’s third piano concerto with the Russian Symphony Orchestra of Yaroslavl.

Panagiotis has given a number of recitals at important international festivals such as the Athens Festival, the Sofia Festival, the “Musical Kremlin” Festival of Moscow, the Nafplion Festival and the English Music Festival where he presented an all-Holbrooke recital. In 2002 he was chosen to represent the 1^st Moscow-based Arensky Festival with concerts in Germany and Greece and in 2004, 2005 and 2006 he was one of the featured artists at the Malta International Festival. He has recorded 5 CDs, the first of which includes the world premiere of Pavel Pabst’s Piano Concerto on Cameo Classics and which became “Recording of the Month” on Music Web International.

Most recently, he was a featured soloist with Croatia’s Simfonijski orkestar Hvratska vojske in a performance of Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” in Zagreb. This concert inaugurated the entry of the Republic of Croatia into NATO. His Holbrooke solo works CD (vol.1) received great critical acclaim on the Gramophone magazine. Right now preparations are made for the world-premiere of Holbooke’s 2^nd Piano Concerto with Leslie Howard conducting.

Ο Βεροιώτης πιανίστας γεννήθηκε τον Νοέμβριο του 1982 σε οικογένεια επιστημόνων και πήρε τα πρώτα μαθήματα πιάνου από τον πατέρα του, τον φαρμακοποιό και πιανίστα Γεώργιο Τροχόπουλο, ο οποίος υπήρξε και ο βασικός του καθοδηγητής κατά τα εφηβικά του χρόνια. Από το Σεπτέμβριο του 2000 υπήρξε μαθητής του διάσημου Ρώσου πιανίστα Nikolai Petrov (ο οποίος διέκρινε στον 16-χρονο Παναγιώτη μια “πιανιστική ιδιοφυία”) στο Kρατικό Ωδείο της Μόσχας “Tchaikovsky”, απ’ όπου και αποφοίτησε το 2006.

Με ένα ρεπερτόριο που περιλαμβάνει 15 προγράμματα ρεσιτάλ και 30 κοντσέρτα για πιάνο και ορχήστρα (μεταξύ άλλων και όλα τα κοντσέρτα του Rachmaninov), έχει εμφανιστεί σε διάφορες χώρες όπως Ρωσία, Ιταλία, Γερμανία, Αυστρία, Κροατία, Ρουμανία και ΗΠΑ. Μερικοί από τους μαέστρους με τους οποίους έχει συνεργαστεί, είναι οι Murad Annamamedov, Tomasz Bugaj, Ovidiu Balan, Grigor Palikarov και Octav Calleya.

Κάποιες από τις περασμένες του συμπράξεις με ορχήστρα περιλαμβάνουν το 2ο κοντσέρτο του Brahms με την Φιλαρμονική της πόλης Pazardjik (Βουλγαρία) καθώς και το 3o κοντσέρτο του Prokofiev με τη συμφωνική ορχήστρα του Kissinau (Μολδαβία), το 1ο κοντσέρτο του Liszt με τη δημοτική ορχήστρα Θεσσαλονίκης και το 3o κοντσέρτο του Rachmaninov με τη συμφωνική ορχήστρα της ρωσικής πόλης Yaroslavl. Πιο πρόσφατα εμφανίστηκε ως σολίστ με ορχήστρα στο Ζάγκρεμπ της Κροατίας-μια συναυλία η οποία σήμανε την επίσημη είσοδο της χώρας στο ΝΑΤΟ.

Έχει δώσει ρεσιτάλ σε πολλά διεθνή φεστιβάλ όπως το φεστιβάλ Αθηνών, το φεστιβάλ “Μουσικό Κρεμλίνο” της Μόσχας, το φεστιβάλ Ναυπλίου και το “English Music Festival”, όπου παρουσίασε ένα ρεσιτάλ με έργα του Josef Holbrooke για πρώτη φορά στην πιανιστική ιστορία. Το 2002 επιλέχθηκε να εκπροσωπήσει το 1ο φεστιβάλ Arensky της Μόσχας στο εξωτερικό με συναυλίες στην Ελλάδα και τη Γερμανία, ενώ το 2004, 2005 και 2006 ήταν ένας από τους προσκεκλημένους καλλιτέχνες του διεθνούς φεστιβάλ της Μάλτας.

Η δισκογραφική του δουλειά περιλαμβάνει ήδη 5 CD, το πρώτο από τα οποία περιλαμβάνει την πρώτη παγκόσμια εκτέλεση του κοντσέρτου για πιάνο και ορχήστρα του Pavel Pabst που κυκλοφορεί στην Cameo Classics και έγινε ηχογράφηση του μήνα στο Music Web International.

Το ίδιο περιοδικό χάρισε μια εξαιρετική κριτική στον δίσκο με Ρώσικα έργα για πιάνο που περιλαμβάνουν μεταξύ άλλων τον «Petroushka» του Stravinsky και όλα τα πρελούδια του Rachmaninov (έργο 23), ενώ ο δίσκος του με έργα Holbrooke (αρ.1) έλαβε εξαιρετικές κριτικές ακόμη και από το περιοδικό Gramophone.

Τον Δεκέμβριο του 2011 επιλέχτηκε να πάρει μέρος σε μια συναυλία προς τιμήν του μεγάλου βιρτουόζου Marc-Andre Hamelin -παρουσία του ιδίου στο Μέγαρο Μουσικής της Μόσχας- ως ένα από τα ανερχόμενα αστέρια της “Ρωσικής πιανιστικής σχολής”…

The lost piano concerto of Pavel Pabst

In 1885, pianist PAVEL PABST gave the premiere performance of his new Piano Concerto in E-flat major in St Petersburg with the great Anton Rubinstein conducting. The concerto score was lost for 120 years. 

THE LOST CONCERTO was performed in concert, for the first time since its premiere, in April 2005, in Minsk, and in the 150th anniversary year of the birth of PABST, and that public performance is the one presented, unedited, on this CD. PABST's PIANO CONCERTO is a wonderful, romantic three-movement work, lasting 33 minutes. It is full of beautiful tunes. It now takes its rightful place among the great 19th-century concertos on CD with this unique concert recording, and receives stunning debut performances for this digital pure-stereo recording by the brilliant young musicians, pianist PANAGIOTIS TROCHOPOULOS, and British conductor MARIUS STRAVINSKY. Close friends and musical associates of PABST in Moscow, SERGEI RACHMANINOV AND PETER TCHAIKOVSKY, were chosen as the composers for the other works. All the sessions were filmed and a DVD is in the course of preparation. It is planned to be released in April 2009. MUSIC-WEB INTERNATIONAL has graced this CD as RECORD OF THE MONTH with its review of November 22, 2006. "Cameo scores a coup..with this release..it is thoroughly enjoyable and ably played by Panagiotis Trochopoulos..for a live recording, the audience is hardly ever discernable, to the point that the applause at the end comes as a bit of a surprise."
